Electric pulse fisheries face certain environmental challenges A report developed by a certifying firm points out that the sole and plaice electric pulse trawl fisheries have healthy target stocks that are effectively managed but they fall short in relation to its ecosystem impacts … http://www.fis.com/fis/worldnews/worldnews.asp?monthyear=&day=14&id=88234&l=e&special=&%20ndb=1%20target
Battling scientists reach consensus on health of global fish stocks The authors focused on ten well-characterized ecosystems. In five overfished ecosystems, they found that fishing rates had declined since the 1990s to a level at or below the MMSY, which had allowed some depleted stocks to recover. The five rebounding ecosystems (Iceland, Newfoundland–Labrador, the northeast US shelf, southeast Australian shelf and California current) all used different combinations of traditional management practices, including gear restrictions, closed areas and quota reductions. http://www.nature.com/news/2009/090730/full/news.2009.751.html
